Blues, From the Crossroads to the World: Free Blues Workshop with Crossroads Jam

Presented by Reading Blues Fest, Mount Penn Preservation Group,
Reading Musical Foundation, Dave Kline Productions and Berks Arts

October 21, 2022 – A collaborative feature of the overall Reading BluesFest, Dave Kline, along with The Busker

Incognito Trio will host a blues music mentoring workshop and jam on Saturday, November 19, 2023, from 4:30-6:00 PM, between the early and evening concert session at the Doubletree by Hilton Reading Hotel.  The workshop will be held in the Doubletree's amphitheater room. The workshop is free to the public, with pre-registration requested.

Best suited for beginner to intermediate musicians, or anyone simply interested in participating, the workshop and mentoring jam will cover the roots of blues music and various styles of blues will be performed and taught.  There will also be ongoing and informal question and answer opportunities throughout the session.

There are no age restrictions for this concert and workshop, but recommended for students over the age of 12, with a limit of 50 participants. All instruments welcome, ideally students of guitar, bass, and harmonica, and students are encouraged to bring their instruments. Non-musicians, or musicians who do not want to perform are also welcome to attend.

Through the presentation of roots blues through contemporary blues, this program and workshop presents one of America's most influential musical evolutions and influencers.  Powerful as blues roots are, they are often misunderstood by many and their impact on the world folk, pop and contemporary music scene. This underestimation has resulted in music fans, historians and musicians being underserved with opportunities to participate in grassroots programs and learning opportunities. This program advocates for music education through the performance, its in-show discussions, and the workshop, and provides important context to the entire Reading BluesFest initiative.

Funding for this workshop was provided by the Outreach Committee of the Reading Musical Foundation. As space is limited, musicians are asked to register for the workshop.
