Living Blues magazine has announced that three artists performing in this year’s Reading Blues Fest as presented by Berks Arts Council have received nominations for the 2018 Living Blues Readers’ Awards.
Powerhouse vocalist Shemekia Copeland received two nominations — Blues Artist of the Year (Female) and Most Outstanding Blues Singer.
Copeland will be part of the four-concert Reading Blues Fest finale starting at noon on Sunday, Nov. 18, in the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading Grand Ballroom.
Blazing soul-blues rocker Tommy Castro was nominated for Most Outstanding Musician (Guitar).
Tommy Castro & The Painkillers plus Tinsley Ellis will perform on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. in the DoubleTree Grand Ballroom.
Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials were nominated for Best Live Performer, no surprise considering the band has been called a snarling boogie-blues machine and Lil’ Ed is known for his riveting slide guitar work.
Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials will perform on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1:30 p.m. in the DoubleTree Grand Ballroom along with Chicago Plays the Stones featuring Ronnie Baker Brooks and Billy Branch.
Winners will be announced in August.
